CHARLESTON, S.C. – Charleston Southern will look to advance into the postseason for the 21st consecutive season in 2013 as the Buccaneers will host 10 matches on the friendly pitch of the CSU Soccer Field as Head Coach Eric Terrill announced the release of the 2013 women’s soccer schedule on Wednesday morning.
Highlighting the schedule include home matches against local rival College of Charleston and the return of the Nike Tournament, as well as home contests against Big South foes Radford, Presbyterian, VMI, Winthrop and Gardner-Webb.
“We’re a young team, and this is a pretty good schedule for a young team,” commented Terrill on the 2013 women’s soccer slate. “I think it can push us where we need to go and hopefully give us experience to make a bigger impact in the Big South than we did last year.”
Charleston Southern begins their preparations for the year with a scrimmage on August 14th against USC Beaufort, before opening up the regular season with four consecutive matches at home.
CSU opens up the regular season with their annual Silver Cup match against CofC on August 23rd with play beginning on the campus of Charleston Southern University at 4 p.m.
The Bucs continue their home stand on August 26th against Francis Marion, while finishing up the month hosting the Nike Tournament in conjunction with The Citadel, as the Buccaneers will host Canisius on the 30th, while taking on Jacksonville State on September 1st.
The remainder of Charleston Southern’s non-conference slate takes up the next four matches as CSU heads to the road for a three game trip against The Citadel (Sept. 8), Mercer (Sept. 12) and Georgia Southern (Sept. 15), before returning home on September 20th to take on USC Upstate in their final tune-up before beginning Big South Conference action.
CSU opens up conference action on the road on September 25th in Lynchburg, Va., as the Bucs take on Liberty, before returning home on Saturday for a match against 2012 Big South Champion Radford for the Buccaneers’ Big South home opener on September 28th. Kickoff between the Bucs and the Highlanders is set for 1 p.m.
The Bucs open up the month of October at home against Presbyterian on October 2nd, before heading up to North Carolina the following week for a pair of road contests against UNC Asheville (Oct. 5) and Campbell (Oct. 9).
Home games against VMI (Oct. 11) and Winthrop (Oct. 16) are followed by a road trip against Longwood (Oct. 19) and High Point (Oct. 23) as CSU heads into the final week of the regular season.
CSU closes out the 2013 home schedule with Senior Day on Saturday, October 26th against Gardner-Webb, before closing out the regular season on the road on October 29 against Coastal Carolina.
The 2013 Big South Conference Championships begin with First Round action on November 2nd, with the semifinals and finals taking place in Conway, S.C. at Coastal Carolina University on November 8-10.
