Saturday’s 1-0 win over the Pittsburgh Riverhounds wasn’t a classic in the pretty sense — it wasn’t a top-form opponent, and the Battery’s control of the match wasn’t exactly dominant — but the 5,415 fans officially in attendance clearly didn’t care.
They witnessed some gutsy soccer by the Battery, who avoided what would have been a traumatically destructive disappointment by salvaging the short-handed win. But we’ll probably remember this event years from now not as the first home win of the season, but as The Match The Battery Had to Win Twice. Here’s the game in photos.
