Help us cover 2 big matches Friday

That’s me interviewing Cody Ellison on Saturday. If you like the kind of local soccer coverage you can only get here, I’ve got a way you can help out — and benefit from it in the process. Kim Morgan Gregory photo.

When the Charleston Battery won their quarter-final match against the L.A. Blues on Friday, most of us assumed the Battery would play their next game at Orlando a week later.

Which would have worked out well. We’d have covered the College of Charleston men’s season-opener against the No. 8 Akron Zips Friday night at Patriots Point, and then driven down to Orlando to cover the Battery’s semi-final at the Florida Citrus Bowl.

Except that’s not the way Orlando scheduled things.

So here’s the pitch: We need to raise enough money this week to:

1. Cover the cost of my travel to and from Orlando (I’ll shoot the match, cover the game from the stadium and write the big day-after game wrap that draws so many readers every week);

2. Hire a second reporter here to write the live Battery game story from the USL PRO video stream and my post-game notes Friday night;

3. Hire another reporter to cover C of C’s home game against the powerhouse Zips;

4. Hire a second photographer to shoot the weekend action at Patriots Point.

We’ve got four advertising positions that will take a 300-by-250-pixel ads, and we’ll either route those clicks to your site or make you a page on ours.  Buy an ad and we’ll run it for a week. Plus we’ll do some little things on our own to show our appreciation.
