Put a little English on it

West Bromwich Albion blew into town to a much better reception than two hundred years ago or so, with fans waiting for them at the early practice Saturday morning July 17. The team posed for pictures, then loosened up on the pitch at Blackbaud Stadium for the evening game with the Charleston Battery. It’s not often an English Premier League team plays in the U.S. and some fans of the Baggies drove all the way from Canada for a chance to be up close and personal with their players. Although the Battery tied WBA for a lovely moment, the visitors scored late to take the win 2-1. The competition might have been fierce on the field, but the atmosphere was fun at the game and in the Three Lions Pub after. WBA players were impressed (and who isn’t?!) with the collection of soccer memorabilia and the Battery men were counting themselves lucky for the opportunity to play professionals from soccer’s most prestigious league.
