Storm troopers

Tropical Storm Ana, rudely showing up before the actual start of the 2015 hurricane season, threatened to spoil the Battery’s party at the ‘Baud on Saturday. With a chance to pull ahead of Richmond, who took a surprising blow from Charlotte in a 3-0 defeat Friday, Charleston was having none of it. Armed with party tents, umbrellas, rain gear and disdain for rain, fans stuck out the early bad weather, marched into the stadium and settled in for a lovely evening – the downpours stopped, the temperature was coolly pleasant, and their team dismantled the much-vaunted Pittsburgh Riverhounds offense. Wearing pink jerseys (which fans could bid on at a silent auction) to support the battle against cancer, the Battery dominated, defeating the ‘Hounds 3-1. Read the details in Corbin Ensminger’s GameWrap. The mood was celebratory – players headed to E1 to show appreciation, then to the Three Lions Pub for Karaoke night, leaving Richmond to sing the blues in third place.
