Modern MediaWorks sponsorship box.The Battery scrimmaged a team from Savannah College of Art and Design Sunday, and Corbin Ensminger of Southern Soccer was on hand to write a report.

Highlights:

Coach Mike Anhaeuser told Southern Soccer he planned to keep between six and eight trialists after the scrimmage.

One of those is Austin Savage, a 5-9 forward and Summerville native who was Clemson’s top scorer over the last two seasons. He’ll likely play in the Carolina Challenge Cup.

Corbin points out two interesting veteran keepers who’ve come to camp to compete with 2012 Opening Game starting keeper Kevin KlasilaTunde Ogunbiyi played for Boston College and Ocean City F.C. in the PDL and recently went on trial with the Philadelphia Union. Keeper Brian Edwards is a  28-year-old Wake Forest grad who was drafted by Toronto in the second round of the 2008 MLS Superdraft. He spent some time as a backup in MLS, played briefly for the Charlotte Eagles of USL, and most recently played for second-division Swedish side Degerfors IF.

The Battery beat SCAD 2-0. Read Corbin’s observations on his site.
